Underdriven are stupid and normal aren't LOL
Seriously though, underdriven pullies reduce the loads on the engine by running the various pumps and wheels slower than normal, the alternator being a prime example of this. OK on a competition car, not so great on a road car in the middle of winter when your alternator's on the way out anyway and you've got your wipers, heater, lights and demister on.
If you're that worried about reducing loads on the engine, why not just remove the alternator altogether? Joking. Although some people do for drag racing.
Just get a standard size pulley set, but lightened.
