Default HAVE I DAMAGED THE ENGINE????

Hi there.

i have a my98 wrx

the other night whilst driving home from work, my engine started to sound really rough, like metal on metal kind of rubbing sound, so the next day i checked the oil, and there wasnt a drop on the dipstick , so i got some new oil and put in 1.5 litres, then checked it again, and it was on MAX .

it still sounds a bit clangy, but then again it could be me being paranoid, as my girlfriend says it sounds normal.

does this mean i did have oil in it but not enough to register on the dipstick?

by letting the oil get that low have i damaged the internals?

now im too scared to put my foot down just incase the engine falls apart.

have i got any thing to worry about?

can a garage check that everything is fine inside?

cheers

a worried dazzer.

Your engine was still 3 Litres full and the oil take-up should be below that level? If it sounds ok then just carry on driving it m8. Taking a good engine apart can do more harm than good.
