Question Injectors cleaner

Is it safe to use a injector cleaner such as wynns or redex, if so which brand would be the most effective..

don't like it.. if you want to clean the injectors then take them out and get them flow tested / cleaned.

Why do you think they need cleaning?

surely you will be changing them as part of the mods you are doing?

mine ran to around 120k with no issues.. then replaced for bigger.

It can work, they all use pretty much the same main chemicals as paint thinners and octane booster, so they are much of a muchness.

(the octane boost gives the impression of an "improvement" Be aware of that! )

If there is a problem with carbon and varnish deposits on injectors or the back of valves etc. You need quite high concentrations for it to work IME. Such as one can for a gallon, as opposed to one can for a full tank.

I have used STP injector cleaner to good effect. Used it in my Renault 19 16v, better pickup and better economy. Then did a blind test, my dad used to teach chemistry and was, and still is, dubious of claims made about so called wonder products. Weekly he used to drive from Manchester to Doncaster along the M62 going over the pennines, driving up one of the bigger hills he had to change down to 4th in his Renault Megane 1.4 (single point injection). One day he asked me to fill his up as I was nipping out in it, unknown to him I put a dose of STP injection cleaner in. He drove round all week, short journeys, then on the following Saturday he drove over to Doncaster. On the Sunday night got a phone call asking what fuel I had put in, told him normal unleaded but that I had put STP in. Asked why his reply was that he NO LONGER had to drop down to 4th over the same hill. So that is a result especially as it was a blind test, I still use it regularly even though I use Optimax with it's cleaning properties. Hope this ,even though slightly long winded helps Steve.

I have always used a can a week before a service and the MOT - just because I want the emmissions to be as sure to pass as possible.

I believe it is effective
