Sure its a burning oil smell, or is it a coolant smell.

Had smoke come from my turbo the otherday when I opened the bonnet becasue I could smell something burning when the heaters where on, found that it was coolant which had dripped onto the turbo from the pipe which joins the turbo from the header tank.

to be honest i know nothing about these cars i would love to know about them.
well its like if you put water on some thing hot its gives a bit of smoke.
i am more worried about a burning smell
its right under the sterring near the turbo.
i have no idea what it could be.

If your sure its water, check the water hoses to the turbo, also check the level of the header-tank, if your loosing water from the system then that will be a good sign that you are leaking it from somewhere.

If its oil then it could possibly be the rocker cover gasket, well known to drip a bit esp on classics and that ends up on the exhaust manifold. Gives off that lovely burnt oil smell too. That would be my first guess. Not a serious problem if it is that and not too difficult/expensive to get changed either.

For getting it looked at near you...

Common problem. Do a search for "rocker cover gasket" on here.

Give the guys at scoobyclinic or subaru service centre in sheffield a ring. I'd say around 2-3 hours labour + parts judging by what other ppl have said (mine were done when engine was out anyway). Shouldnt have to do both as it should be obvious which one is leaking. Check your oil levels first and as long as the cover itself isnt cracked and oil isnt pi55ing out you should be fine to drive it there.
