02 PPP ECU run an early 01 WRX???
Hi all,
Simple question really... Can I put a late 02WRX PPP ECU into an early(ish) 01WRX?
Are there any engine changes between 01 and 02 WRX?
The reason I ask is that I've been looking at the maps that come on a stock 02WRX vs the (stock) maps that I have on my 01WRX.
The Fuel maps look fairly similar, except that my 01 AFR target is richer above 6500, whereas the 02WRX leans off slightly above 6500 rpm. Plus my 01WRX is richer at 1200rpm at higher loads, whereas the 02WRX is not.
The boost map looks identical between the two MY's
The wastegate maps look like some work has been done to increase responsiveness perhaps.
More significantly, while the base ignition maps are identical... The ignition advance maps show an interesting difference...
The 02 WRX advance map is a kinda wierd looking shape (as I guess most ignition advance maps are), but my 01 WRX has about a 4 degree sharp drop in advance at 2000 rpm until about 4000 rpm over most of the load range.
Is this change likely to be due to Subaru improving the map over time, or is it matched to some mechanical revision to the engine?
If the mechanical mod answer, then I guess the 02 PPP ECU may not make my engine happy :-(
Any help / advice would be great! :-)

I'm interested in the answer to this one also, especially if anyone has a master list of 'ECU interoperablity' for Newage WRXs.

Can I add a question...
Assuming the 02PPP ECU will drive my 01... What stuff do I need to change?
I already have Samco IC hose, decat downpipe and straight center (replacing the center resonator), and H&S backbox...
Do I need to change the restrictor for the newer type of PPP? Do I need to do anything with my uppipe?
Cheers all,

The PPP was designed to work with the downpipe cat in, although it shoudlnt make THAT much difference it may giv eyou some boost spiking issues. The up pipe shoudl be fine on this front....not sure about the restrictor...
