Default Short Engine Advice

Number 2 piston has melted and scrapped the bore on my 01 classic impreza,

1.One option is to get a short engine, powerstation say they aint likely to get any in, who else can i try, what should i be aware of

Obviously subaru is going to be my last point of call and i dont fancy risking buying a second hand one off some dodgy guy with no garantees,

2.Another option would be to re bore the original engine and fit slightly bigger pistons, what are your opinons on this, will i get more power?

Advice would be a massive help guys, dave m uk

problem is that my car is already at a garage in stoke and to take it down to API will cost more money in the long run, so taking the car somewhere else aint an option, i need options as to what the next move should be,

get them to provide you an engine, and take the engine to the car instead then thats what swisstony on here did very recently....

may work out a lot cheaper to buy a standard short engine that to crack yours open and rebore and get all new pistons rods blah blah....

thast what i would do anyway, your car doesnt have to go anywhere near api if not needed too..
