Default help for a novice?

whats the score with getting a re-map done on my my00 uk impreza turbo, iv not long had a full exhaust and decat down pipe fitted and am really pleased with the results however iv heard of people having problems with overboosting and detonation. i do plan to get a fully prog ecu in the future but dont have that kind of money at the moment. So what i was wondering is if its possible to have my standard ecu remapped to make sure i dont get any problems related to it
