im sorry fella for what is about to happen to your geniune thread. if people start to spout off, look in the general forum at oil threads and you will hopefully realise who not to listen too.
I would say a good quality 10/40 fully synthetic, castrol/mobil/motul.
others may advise comma/halfords though!

Daballs,
Is your car standard or mod'd? If mod'd then by how much? Mileage?
Without knowing a bit more people are unable to give considered advice.
What if the cars done 100k with a sketchy history or is standard and driven within recommended tolerances? Then I'd suggest putting in £15 worth of "grade III" halfords/Comma fully synthetic (sic) and it would be entirely adequate.
If, for example, its a tidy example with sensible mods which has an upped power output from standard then I'd recommend grade IV/V motul 300V, Slikolene pro S and maybe others for £40ish for 5 litres. These are basically your options mate.
If it's standard or lightly modified then 10w/40, if it's highly modded and subjected to constant high temps you may consider 10w/50
Do a search for oil/pslewis/oilman in general. It may take a while to find contributions which offer anything more then comedy value, though they are there.
Lots of good info on oils outside the confines of Snet too.
