THEY DENTED MY DOOR !!!!!!!!!!
#1
Parked my car in a supermarket today, only to find a dent in the side of it when I returned, its not very big, must have been the doesy plonker y my side opening their door into my car, if difficult to see unless you look for it, but hay, I now know its there and spot it straight away, can such a small dent be fixed? If so anyone know anywhere in the midlands (stoke) area?
Has this happened to anyone else? And what did you do about it (apart from cry like me!!)
OOO it broke my heart to see it L

yep, they all do that sir...
it might not have been another car door, just a leaf blowing against the door at the wrong angle.
I learnt after my first scoob to park about 100m away from any other car, person, harsh light etc as the doors pick up scuffs and dents like nothing on earth. Apparently rubbing strips can be fitted, but the standard subaru ones can not be painted. Mondeo ones can be adapted to fit, can be painted and look ok, but would you want a fordy bit on your car?

yeah ive had dent taken out of my scoob before, they use a small instrument and slide it down between the window and the door, then gently ease the dent out from the inside. I used a company called dentsaway in manchester, they will do the whole car for about 30 quid.

I always try to park in the less populated parts of the car-park (not a dark bit though), and diagonally across two spaces, but only if it's not too busy otherwise you get major abuse !

Yeh, but why is it, you seek out the remotest space in the whole car park, 5 spaces free either side, it's p155ing down and it means an extra 20 seconds exposed to the elements, and when you return there's a D reg Nissan Micra covered in dents parked next to your car.

This is exactly why I got some of the side protection strips fitted, I've got little/no confidence in Joe Public's ability to open a car door properly.
I reckon they actually look OK once fitted, but it's down to personal taste really. I'd rather have the side strips than be constantly paranoid and checking each panel every time I return to the car. Now they're on I don't really worry about it.

As it happens my mate's just mailed me some piccies that I took of my scoob t'other day. Only problem is I'm not sure how to post them to the bbs.
Any chance I could pass them on to a 'man who can'?

Got em from the Subaru dealer, £49 inc vat which is cheaper than getting dents repaired. If you want them to fit em it'll cost about 25 quid extra but I did em meself. With a bit of patience to get them lined up properly (I put a few bits of tape on the panels as guides) and clean the panels thoroughly first they'll be fine. What colour's your car? Bear in mind that on a DBM they're hardly visible.
Dug out the P1 piccy, looks the bollox doesn't it? I think he said they were off a mondeo or something!

I think there are two types of side strips available, hard plastic and rubber. I had the rubber ones with SUBARU on the rear half supplied, painted and fitted for the P1 by my local dealer for £150 inc, hope this helps

I checked into getting them sprayed up, it seems that they'd need to use some sort of rubberised paint so it would have a degree of flex in it. I wasn't convinced that they'd still look great after gawd knows how many people slammed their car doors into em though which is why I didn't get them done.
Having said that a mate of mine runs a bodyshop so when I speak to him about the sills I'll also find out how resilient the side strips would be if they were also painted.

****, I've had the door protector strips on since day one and I just found my first dent whilst cleaning the car. The trouble is rear doors which are profiled over the rear wheel arch aren't really stopped from hitting you. I blame these muppets with kids as I hardly even use my back doors. Not sure how good the strips are against range rovers, people carriers and other such *****-mobiles either

Catflap - got a quote from my mate who runs the bodyshop for £125 for the sills and rear corner spoilers. I asked him about the strips and he said they'd come out quite nicely with a good plasticised paint but if someone opened their door on them quite hard, he couldn't guarantee it wouldn't chip the paint. The other problem is that with the sills, I can just remove em and leave em at the bodyshop for a few days and still use the car. The strips would be easier to paint on the car so it'd all need masking off - bigger job, more labour etc. Plus I'd be without the car for a few days. Getting them painted before they're fitted is probably the way to go, but will need more care when fitting them to avoid over-stretching the paint.
Boost II - Big 4wds seem to be the worst culprits, rivalled only by Johnny Council house in his dodgy-MOT 18 yr old rustbucket. I was in a company car once having a sandwich at some services, parked in the emptiest section of the carpark, no other cars within at least 50 yards. A woman in a range rover then pulls up right next to me on the passenger side, gets out of the door whilst simultaneously trying to grab handbag/phone/stereo and put steering lock on. Surprise surprise her door hit the co. car's door about 5 times. I wound the window down and asked her what the hell she was playing at. First she tried to deny it, until I pointed out that I'd been sitting in the car all along, then she gave a sarcastic 'oh well, sorry' and stormed off in a huff. Fortunately there was no damage but I couldn't believe how some people can have so little respect for other people's property. It's as if the world ends at their front bumper.

Im tempted to give it a go with some hard plastic and plastic primer and paint it, i also want to try it myself with the mirrors, maybe ill pay a visit to the scrappy for some old bits of plastic that look a similar material and try them first, i have once painted my bumper on an old escort i had, i put plenty of plastic primer on and it came out very well, did not suffer the tacky boy racer flake paint effect they try so hard to get LOL.
But if anyone else has experience in painting stuff like that let me know, My thinking is simple im probably looking at 150 - 200 for it done by a pro, i recon ittle cost me 20 quid or so, that leaves 180 for more bits on my car LOL
