Default Why does a wrx have more power then a turbo 2000

As above, what is it that gives the Jap import wrx (280 bhp) more power then a turbo 2000? what would be needed to make a turbo 2000 reach 300bhp?

Thank you

The saloons had the following power:-

92-94 240ps (237bhp)
95-96 260ps (257bhp)
97-00 280ps (276bhp)

All on 100 ron fuel.
Differences in the ECU map, restricted to 180kmh (112mph) and a different market, those are the main reasons they produced more power.

so`realistically, if you put a mappable ecu on a turbo 2000 and had it propperly set up you could see similar figures to a wrx?

Thank you

you can put a jap ecu in a uk and it will run. However you will be left with the fuel issue and the car will not go over 112mph

A good question, which seems to have gone off on a tangent about exact figures for each different model. I can't say I've ever had a definitive answer to this myself.

Not having ever taken a turbo 2000 or a WRX lump apart, but assuming they are the same, it can only be a result of additional boost pressure, fuelling or advanced timing. Which in essence can all be achieved in the ECU, but could be supported by different turbo, fuelling or induction components without even touching the engine internally. A necessary side effect of this would be that super unleaded is a necessity rather than an option. The fuel itself isn't the magic stuff, it's its additional resistance to knock, allowing you to tune the engine for more power, that gives the higher power/torque figures.

WRX and UK engines are generally the same internally (ie cast pistons, single piece valves, overbucket shims), the exception being cam profiles.

The big difference is in the turbo fitted (UK = TD04 from MY97, WRX = much larger VF series from MY97) and the map burnt onto the ECU
