Default Anyone P1 Advice

Is it true that the P1 engines have a fault that can make them knock low end

ive just bought one and whilst i was shopping for one i saw that quite a few p1's for sale had an engine re-builb.... is this something i should be worried about?

is it worth doing any mods or is it better standard, ( guy i bought it off said he had a dump valve on it which slowed it down .. so he took it off)

Thanks

i've had a p1 for about a year and half no probs warm up and cool down properly keep the servicing up and do'nt mess with the air filter ie induction kits are a no no unless your having it remapped and fingers crossed u'll be ok enjoy mate

IIRC its considered that Prodrive didn't make enough modifications the the ECU on P1s to cope with UK fuel. Don't forget P1s were originally Type Rs from Japan.

Why the Subaru engines are so funny about fuel I have no idea and why some are happy to have the nuts thrashed off them with normal 95 fuel and why some still insist on blowing up after having plenty of Optimax and booster I have no idea!

If you've got some cash and have a few mods, get the car mapped ASAP to Optimax. At least them it should be a little safer.

As above stay away from induction kits.

The ones I've heard about usually go bang around the 50k-60k mark, I know Subaru have got 6 short blocks in stock at any one time, seems to be a problem with the lubricating of the crank, I have read several different theories but not 100% who is right
