Default Car Battery

Hi Chaps....

Quick question as i am popping out at lunch to buy one.....

I have a 03 Impretza STI U.K type and the battery has died....

I am getting various things checked like the Tracker etc but i need to replace the battery as its loosing charge after 1 day.

Can anyone tell me if i should go with an official subaru battery or will a halfords one do? Alternativley, do you have any other recommendations?

Do Subaru do Trickle chargers?

Thanks all

A battery will be fine from halfruads. they sell trickle chargers as well. not that you should need it on a new battery unless something is draining the system.

If you are going to halfrauds then they probably have a ref chart to get the right model.

Safest bet is to note the capacity of the existing battery and make sure you get one that is at least the same. It is the number of Ah.

Also, make sure the physical dimensions are the same, ie if you get a newer one that is wider it might not fit in the tray, and make sure the terminals are in the same place or the leads may not reach.

One last daft thing, make sure the clamp will fit and doesn't foul the caps where the water can be topped up.

My MY01 STI has a motaquip battery on and it is almost identical to the japanese one that is on my old car.

Good batteries these, made by Yuasa and same spec as thier supreme range.

410 cranking Amps, and 105 min reserve capacity.
Good fit in scoobs and 4 year warrantee.

If your feeling naughty, the stickers on top of the batteries at Hellfrauds peel off really easy.. >hint hint<

No battery that young should die so early.
There is a known problem with some of the Trackstar units on that age of STi taking a long time to enter sleep mode - or in my case, not entering sleep mode at all!
I had to use a "smart" trickle charger if I left the car for more than three or four days. I have recently had the Trackstar unit replaced under warranty and so far all is well! I suggest you have a word with the dealer if the car is still under warranty.

I bought a halfords calcium same as sti-chris. The £55 is a special offer at present (normal 3 year battery is £53) so its a no contest. New battery turns motor over twice as fast as the old subaru one did from new. Battery No is HCB005.
