I see what your saying, but if you drive like a complete ****, i doubt the box coulf handle 200bhp.
Just normal fast road, mixed with the occasional track and 1/4 mile.

I'm not an expert, but the common concensus appears to be that if you plan on going much above 300bhp/ft lbs of torque, you should really be budgeting for a new gearbox. Put another way, it might last, but don't be surprised if it doesn't!
Drag work is very hard on the transmission- I wouldn't want to do much of that with a std box on a modified car. I think BOB5 on here is still on std transmission and well over 300 bhp and ft/lbs torque though.

The 16g is very capable of smashing your OE box.
As I suggested, dont use the 16g to its full potential unless you fancy splashing out £2.5k+ on a capable box.
My OE box didnt last for very long at 340lbs of torque.
Most seem to suggest a figure south of 300lbs on a OE box.

Gus,
I hope you were touching wood as you said that
It is true that my MY01 WRX gearbox is holding together very nicely considering that for the last 4 years it has been 'tearing up' the 1/4 mile.
Probably done 120-130 1/4 miles with times in the 12.8's
Cheers

I guess I'm the most sympathetic (to the gearbox) of the bunch that have posted above so can't comment on how my 370 odd BHP hits the road..........LOL
The thing that strikes me is I just wouldn't know what to do with a 6th gear on a WRX !! I have enough trouble coping with 5 !!!

i have 02 wrx drive it hard all the time, runs on the drag strips, 5000 rpm launches with powerflex diff mounts and rear beam mounts aswell, touch would is holding up well, guess bhp approaching 290, also may i add IMHO type of gear oil and how frequently changed will affect lifespan of box, personally i change my box and diff oils every year, 10000 miles max, Subaru oil only.

Mine's been running 350/350 for two months now, so far no problems (I have started saving for a new box though because the OE one has now done 70K of fast road driving, at about 280bhp, before the new engine)
