Default Remapping - help needed

Apologies if this has been discussed at length before, but the search facility's down so I can't look myself.

I'm considering a remap of my 03 WRX, but being new to this have some concerns about it.

The main point that I'm worried about is can it be detected by Subaru dealers when it's in for servicing ?

If it's so simple why do Subaru not do it as standard ? Are there any disadvantages ?

Can someone please paste a link about remapping or advise me on the pros and cons, specifically -

How much will it cost ?
What power increase can I expect from an engine remap?
Does it improve the torque much ?
Will it make the fuel economy even worse ?
Will it damage the engine ?

Thanks.

Remapping would only be worth doing in conjunction with a decat exhaust system to really make a difference. You would be looking at a total cost of around £1600. Approx £1000 for exhaust ( with downpipe and uppipe) approx £600 for ecutek remap. Bhp can increase up to 285ish and torque will increase. Good mapper will keep things within safe limits and mpg may even improve. Map isn't detected when running diagnostic checks etc.
Disadvantages - increased insurance.....louder exhaust if you don't want that!

Others may have different mod suggestions and there are loads of threads on this topic.

Go to Powerstation.

Magnex decat downpipe, ecutek remap circa £950 all in.

Speak to Dirk or Rich.

285bhp/280lbs

I'd be surprised if you got that much torque on td04 with just downpipe. Very surprised.

Decat downpipe is a bit of a giveaway if you don't want your dealer to know about the remap..

I was 'told' by a Sub dealer that they can not detect a remap with their diagnostics, but I would get another opinion on that to be sure.

Subaru do sell a remap themselves it's called PPP! a remap and an exhaust .

My remapped 01 with a prodrive back box and centre decat makes between 255-265HP & 266-276ft/lbs

As previous poster said, best do any other mods you are planning before the map to get the best out of it or you will be paying again (not as much mind) to have the map tweaked when you do other things

Just a bit surprised. I got 286.1bhp and only 344 Nm (253.72 pounds) on the Powerstation rollers with decat and green filter mapped. Right I'm not happy now........I want a new turbo now or I'll make myself sick.

Don't forget Powerstation are considered one of the more accurate dyno's..!

My full decat, green panel, STI TMIC (1.4bar peak TD04) and BRD remap made 276/266 back in Aug but andfeels quick..!

The Magnex decat downpipe does also delete the 2nd cat in the first part of the centre section too. Thus leaving the cat in the uppipe.

Perhaps this is where the extra power is coming from.

Powerstation are really on the ball in my opinion.

They got my car up to 382/360 and I'm well pleased.

They also did another mates 02 WRX a few weeks back and he is now running 352/306 (VF34/FMIC/Headers)

If I just go for remapping, (as I know someone who does it and can get it done at cost price) will I need to tell my insurance ??

If a Subaru dealer can't tell it's been done will an insurer be able to tell ?
