Default subaru needs help

hello chaps ,i bought my first scooby a while back but its losing power and judders alot in every gear .if you floor it the power can cut out around 4000rpm ,making you change gear.I bought it off an old bloke who has had it from new,its only got 40k on the clock and full subaru service history and is completly standard apart from a dump valve,so im hoping its nothing major.
my question is what could it be and wheres the best place in the northeast to get it fixed and to take for future mods.

would really appreciate some help because its doing my crust in

plugs, coil packs (if old than 97), ht leads if newer than 97, boost solenoid needs a clean, ecu in safe mode.

Is the engine check light on?

Could be many things unfortunatly.

plugs or more likely ht leads imho, check they are pushed fully home in the coilpack and on the plugs fully to start with.

fuel pump? might be worth getting the fuel pressure tested.can cause engine to run lean which is not good! but a good place to start may well be the maf sensor.i believe they are known to be dodgy on that model.
