Question Urgent Please! Advice FMIC verses TMIC?

I think i know the answer to this but:

I have an Sti v3 hill climb car running a TD05 20g @1.4 bar = 380/407 bhp.
Currently have an Sti V8 TMIC which is obviously doing a Good Job!

Queations:
1
Will a FMIC improve things? The V8 TMIC sufferes from heat soak.
2
Where in the UK can I get the best fitting FMIC? Is the Hybrid the best and from whom and for what cost
3
The Hybrid system sold on ebay: any good?

Graham.

I may well be wrong but is a FMIC the way to go for a short hill climb? The IC you have is one of the most efficient examples so maybe try insulating the TMIC from as many heat sources as possible, phenolic gaskets for the TB and underneath the IC maybe enough? How about a turbo blanket aswell?

I think Harvey commented before that the Hybrids on ebay are missing some pipework or need some modification to the Samcos, I have no experience with it though. I did try to get in on the GB before Christmas but out of the 10 or so that showed interest only 2 came up with the reddies (sp?) so it fell through. I'm still after something but it's for track use so will operate under different conditions to yours.

How about Marks LP FMIC? Expensive but very good by all accounts although I think it only works with reversed manifolds, could be something to keep you busy though

Thanks for the thoughts, just what I need.
I'm sure Harvey does them, but as you say, the short hill climb is not thereal issue, but standing in the Start Area soaks into the TMIC and you can chill it fast enough for the run.
The Lateral is too much. I can do the 2.5 block for that. (fab as it is)

It will work with an inlet manifold in the standard position, the kit doesn't come with any pipe work so it's up to you do the plumbing however you like.

Mikee for example ran his car with the manifold in the standard position.

Smile TMIC vs FMIC

Hi Graham, Not corresponded with you for a while. I have just finished my 3rd season hillclimbing and the second in the modified category. Have knocked 2 seconds off my PB this year. Currently I have an MRT large core TMIC which of course is heavier than the OEM one. I am not sure how long you wait in the queue on your hillclimbs but I warm up the engine and oil and then leave it for a while turned off. About a minute before its my turn to the line I start the car, drive off to the line and I am off. Whilst there will inevitably be some heatsoak it cannot be much and I am not convinced that a couple of minutes before hand and a 35 second hillclimb warrants the extra money on an FMIC. Touchwood my standard gearbox & transmission has stood up to 2 years of using slicks and what a difference these make. Mods for this season are new ECU (possibly MOTEC), uprated clutch & lightened flywheel and VF34 turbo. Off to do a round of the French National hillclimb this year (let me know if you are interested). It is 2.6 miles, some 10,000-20,000 spectators and the pits are 5 miles from the starting line - should be an experience !!!. Regards. Stuart

Daft idea time: has anyone tried fitting some high power fans to their intercooler (front or top mount). Might be handy for short sprints without any decent straights?
