Tha first thing i would do is check that it's had a cambelt done, if not, DO IT!!!!

Then, assuming everything is in good health, decat downpipe....... then backbox.

Then pads/discs, assuming they didn't need re-newing anyway, if they did, uprate them first,

Then it depends what car it is, and how far you want to go...!

basicly want to add a bit more power (nouthing silly just as much as can be done for reasomble prices) also need to make sure it dose well in the corners.

What exhaust do u sugest? de-cat? sports-cat?

Air filters? STI panel or a aftermarket one?

Yep.

Then a decent backbox to unleash the scooby burble

Then.......

Leave it. Seriously. Get used to it first, learn what you like about the car, what you'd like to change and modify accordingly. Otherwise, you're fumbling around in the dark.

Leave it for a few months...

I'm in exactly the same boat as you mate - the only mod so far i've made is an STi panel filter and the only reason i did that is my car was bought with a silly cone filter on it.

I have been advised to sort out my brakes and suspension before embarking on more power as this mod is really what will make you quicker on the road especially if you only have two pot brakes.

I'm opting for EBC yellow stuff pads for starters, see how that goes then maybe change the disc's and then i am considering Eibach springs and then 17" wheels and tyres (mine are 16") this will improve cornering and braking - then i'll look at a few more gee gee's

I had the entire exhaust of my 02WRX changed piece by piece, in search of the "burble" was constantly dissapointed, untill i had a non resonated section put it, was the best £90 i ever spent

First things I did when I got my sti 4 2 years ago was: tyres, oil change, rolling road check at Power Engineering (which highlighted a failing lamda sensor!). Then you can start adding to your scoob. I just like covering all my bases and getting to know the car before making any changes. If you start changing things as soon as you get a scoob, how can you be sure what to change??? Drive it for a few weeks first, then decide.... saves you money in the long run anyway!

A full alignment and geometry check would also be on my list.

Over time, what with the state of our roads, it gets knocked
around.

It can do wonders for the handaling, before embarking on spending
a lot of cash on suspension components.

You have two cats, one in the down pipe and the other in the centre section of the exhaust.

A resonator is used the replace the cat and to help reduce the noise a de-catted system produces.

There's one in the centre section I believe.

If you go for a 98, you might want to upgrade the brakes to the four pots found on MY99 onwards. But other than that, really get to know the car first; it's already a very capable car.

If you are going for UK models try and get a 99/00 model. As there are a few quite nice advantages to the MY. Such as the better 4pot brakes.

I'd check the cambelt then exhaust and filter. Then depending on what you want from the car i'd consider suspention or brakes. Then you can start spending serious money like we all say we wont do
