Default Anybody had to replace a faulty boost solenoid?

I've been having trouble with what I think is the boost solenoid on my my00 classic.

Initially it was hitting fuel cut due to overboosting. I took off the solenoid, and cleaned it out fully. This fixed the overboosting problem, and the car ran fine for about two days.

Now the boost is all over the place, mainly in fifth gear. It will boost to around 1.1 bar (it's running a tek 2 ecu), then it will drop to say 0.5, and hunt around all over the place.

Basically I want to know if this still sounds like the solenoid, cos i'm going to replace it if so. Any idea how much a new one costs from Subaru?

Cheers

had exactly the same problem replaced the solinoid and it fixed the problem. make sure the reason its sticking is not oil from either the turbo or even the block this causes the solenoud to stick .

By far the best one is the 3 port version from the early cars. All the mappers prefer them, as it gives more consistent boost control.

Cost for New, genuine Subaru, is around £158.00 plus a bit of postage and VAT.

If I can help call me, we are open today as well as Thursday and Friday.

Yeah, sort of, you need to run an extra vacuum pipe from the manifold to the upper vacuum connection on the 3 porter. There is a 'spare' connection on the manifold most times, but anywhere on there will do, effectively.

Simple fit job - ten minutes really.

It really is very easy, assuming that you know which one the boost solenoid is !!

lt is the bronze coloured one on the panel close to the drivers side front suspension turret. It has 2 vacuum pipes on the bottom [ don't mix them up, disconnect one at a time ] and wires in the top. That's a simple foolproof electrical connection.

It is held to the panel by 10mm [ maybe 8mm ] headed screws. Simple.

If you're fitting the 3 port one then the extra vacuum pipe off the top of the 3 port, by the wires, needs connecting to a similar sized vacuum pipe off the top of the inlet manifold. You may need a T piece if there is not a spare.

Really that simple.

No mate, in theory the top one by the rubber bit should be to the manifold and the others at the bottom [ alloy bit ] of the solenoid should be to and from the turbo and wastegate actuator.

Can't say about harm, but it's wrong the way you have it. Can't be good for it and until we try one connected the way you have it, I am not able to say whether it's even working. It shouldn't be, as the waste gate control is connected up *** backwards.

Correct it is my opinion.
