Lightbulb Wheel & tyre weight..?

Mods: I know this sould be in wheels section but I would like as many people as possible to see, if you don't mind.

I'm trying to get weight figures for the various wheel/tyre combo's (17's and 18's) both oem and after market. So anyone out there prepared to take a wheel off and pop it on their bathroom scales..?

Just curious as to the savings to be made, by choosing a lighter (OZ super L) wheel, to unsprung weight, over say a cheaper aftermarket copy or indeed oem.

I'll start with 05 wrx oem 17 with 215/45 RE050= 18kgs..!

Come on lads, it's quite mild this week..!

Newage wheels are fairly light, weighed a couple of 17's and 18's Speedline Turini's with tyres and found them to be around the 20kg mark

As above, aluminium alloy is heavier than rubber.
Cheapest/quickest way to save unsprung weight is to run 16's on a classic with 45 profiles, but small brakes.
Best compromise are 'squeeze-forged' 17'' alloy wheels and low profile tyres, or true Magnesium alloy wheels (ie Rays I think)

didn't someone on here a year ago have a mega chart with weights for all manner of wheel/tyre combinations?

Graham.

If someone has already done this I'd like to see it, any idea who it was..?

Hmmm, it looks as though I may be staying with what I've got until I can afford something like 'super leggs'..!

Cheers everyone,
Jason

It was in the Brakw Wheel section and from America I think.
Try a search on there 'wheel weights' or similar?

P1 wheels are pretty good if 17's are your bag for the road as they are quite tough over pot holes.
Team Dynamics do Squeeze-flow wheels.

Toyo tyres are quite light to.

Graham.

Don't know about the tyre weights, these can make a big difference, but I seem to recall (from an old OZ trade brochure that I had), that Superleggera in 7X17 weighed something like 6.5kg. Interestingly enough - and this wasn't very well publicised, fact fans - OZ Chrono Evos, which are sadly no longer available, weighed around 7.3kg in the same size IIRC and they were priced much cheaper than the 'lightweight' Super L.

Why not look at Compomotives or Speedlines? Forget the tyre weights, that will just confuse the issue.
