Question Rocker cover gasket????

I have a slight oil leak on my rocker cover (turbo side) and just been told in order to replace the gasket its an engine out job!?! Although he gave me sum additive to mix in with oil to help expand the rubber gaskets and hopefully this might cure it!

Any ideas!?!

Its an MY94 STI by the way.

First of all, its not an engine out job!
Did mine 2 weeks ago, £35 for the parts from subaru ( Main gasket, 2 spark plug half moons, 6 bolt seals ), and takes around 2 hours. Its a fiddly job, but just take your time, or take it to another garage and pay them the labour to do it ( probably 2-3 hours, £100 - £150).
Have you put the additive in the oil yet? If you havn't, then don't.

Hi mate - definately not an engine out job. Got mine done recently by a guy just out of Horsham for £110 incl VAT (both sides). Same day completion. Mind you, dealership quoted me £350 odd for the same job (both sides)!!

If its only leeking on the drivers side head, then only replace that rocker cover gasket (& half moons), no point in doing the other side if its not leaking, as the near side head (one nearest to the window washer bottle) is the more fiddly one to do.

Keep it simple, just fix what needs fixing, unless its a mod!

You'll get a plume of smoke out of the bonnet scoop every now and then
