Question bad det or just engine noise

Was driving to work this morning, car fully warm etc, and I had a bit of a blast (alongside a cbr 400/600 ), I managed to hit the rev limiter in third which resulted in some knock activity (power fc and commander), checked the commander and the knock indicator had peaked at 60!.

firstly would this be det or engine noise because the limiter was hit?
Secondly, if it would be classed as det, how bad is 60? (maximum previously had been about 21 - 22)

Cheers for any replies.

when it hits the limiter it fuel cuts.. causing it to det momentarily..

i used to get this everytime i hit the limiter, i moved the limit up form 7000 to 7300.
it solved the problem of me hitting the limiter and huge knock count without raising the limit too high.

what do you have your limit set at???

That is one way to solve the problem Jonny or you could just change up sooner

His rev limit is set to 7000rpm.

My limit is set to 6800, it was set to 7000 but I reduced it slightly so that I didnt have this worry - think I will change it back to 7000 again!

Not used to revving so high, last car was an 8v calibra so revving over 5500 was pointless.
Anyway mind is at ease now then, thought it would just be because I hit the limiter.

dont worry, will change it back, that extra 200rpm would have enabled me to leave that bike for dead (yeah right) as it was he just edged me (by about fifty yards!!!)

dont start me on that one, already thinking about it for around march time.
Also toying with the idea of building a new engine as I have got a nice clean area in my new shed that is a decent size. Thinking sti heads and forged internals with a 2 litre block, or a 2.5 with the sti heads

Are the closed deck blocks better than the open ones? and is there anyway of telling without stripping an engine if it is a closed deck block?

they have a webbing on the head, a closed deck block also has this webbing on but the open deck doesn't.

as Jonny said..

you can see the webbing on the back on the head on my engine here on the left

The closed deck block will also have it on the block.
