Default Any knowledge of fuel mixtures.

Does anybody have any experience of running on a petrol / methanol mixture. I run a 205 gti as a dedicated track car which has nitrous injection. Since using the nitrous the engine temp seems to be dangerously high to the extent that delaminating standard cooling hoses is real problem.

I read somewhere that using a petrol / methanol mixture cause the mixture to burn at a lower temp but also will give an increase in power. I have no idea if this is correct or not and if it is does anyone no what sort of mixtures should be used and anything I need to be wary of etc. ?

Will be very grateful for any replies.

add 10% meth.. doubt the cooling effect would help your situation but would increase the RON of the fuel and therefore reduce det / increase power.

JGM is this something you have tried ? Is there any more benefit to going higher than 10% ? Just a little wary about this as it is something I have never tried. Any ideas on reducing the engine temp ?

Sorry for all the questions . . . .

run 10% in a scoob engine yes... added about 3ron.. no benefit noticed going beyond 10%..

As to reducing engine temp, remove theromstate, rad fans on all the time, water wetter, water injection, less NOS .. lol

Simon - ok that is useful about the 10%
Good point about the thermostat hadnt thought of that.
Thoughts so far - Twin fans on all time bigger rad (aluminium)
Water wetter - maybe. Water injection (maybe if the rest doesn't work)
Nos spray bar onto the rad to cool.
Less nos - Don't go there dude trying all this to allow more nos

This may sound a daft question but where does one buy methanol is there pure methanol or is the purple liquid you find in DIY stores the same ?

I have been using plane meths(the purple stuff) at a 10% mix with 95 and have found 4deg more timing across the board to be still very guiet.

Meths is just 95%ethanol, 5%methanol, small amount of dye and bitter adder of some sort.
The only reson i've used it is i can get it cheaper than methanol and when i'm away you can get from the local store.

In a word Yes.
Its totaly transformed the fuel. The engine fells much less sensitive to heat from hard thrashing and you just can't make it det even with 4deg more everywere.
