Default What Dump Valve ??

Ive only owned my Scoob for around 3 months but i realy need a dump valve !
I have been talking to my local tunning mob.
They have recomended i get an HKS one . The cost of it is £245+vat
The guy said its the best choice cause it has all the correct hoses and bolts on nice to the intercooler and he said they are by far the loudest and best sounding ones to go for.
Basicly should i take this guys advice and go for what i think is a bit expensive for a dump valve or what should i be looking for.

I do want a decent one but dont know what i should get.

Any info will help .

oh my scoob is a euro import 03 STi

Why ??

What's wrong with the standard dump valve you already have ???

Read up on here / search for dump valves and see what you are letting yourself in for.

For proper good performance, reliability etc. you should stick with the recirculating dump valve, and if you must go for an aftermarket dump valve the Forge shiny steel ones are fine ..

A vent to atmosphere dump valve may ( if you want the whoosh noise ) sound different but upsets the ECU fuel map and over fuels the engine, leading to running rich and smoking, with the odd exhaust bang, ( which may be what you are after? )

Oh - i am after the whoosing noise , I never knew i would get any problems if i changed from the origional recirculating type.

i thought that it only dumps the air back into the airbox any ways?

i will search thru the forum and see what problems people have had.

Thanks for the advice.

A vent to atmosphere dump valve dumps air the ECU has measured ( via the MAF) to atmosphere, so the engine gets less air than the ECU tinks, so too much fuel is squirted in.

A recirculating dump valve ( like the original one ) dumps the air back inmto the inlet after the measurement, so all air is accounted for and used with the fuel measured for it!

Hope that helps

Actually, there are types that recirc some air and dump the rest to get the noise, not sure of make or price, but may be much more suited to your needs?

if you pay that you need your head feeling. i got a baileys one brand new off ebay for £95 and they are easy to fit. I had it on 3 week and put the standard one back on. One morning when I was a bit hung over the noise started to really **** me off and my car drove ****. The Japs know what they are doing and the standard one is the best. If your like me and just want to know what its like try and borrow one for a bit.
