Default Quick oil question

Hey all,

Will be fitting gauges soon inc oil temp/pres so when fittin the sandwich plate im gonna do an oil change.

This will be my first change, im aware of the procedure etc.

I was thinking of using mobil 1 and i want to know what grade i should be using?

What are youre thoughts/recomendations etc?

As said above. If standard STi i'd go with mobil 15/50 as well.

My legal advisor has told me that I am on no account to post on an oil thread.
The potential for litigation is frightening so he says.

i've been told by a Stealer that as long as it's fullt sythetic then you shouldn't have a prob, so i put Castrol RS 10/50 in mine all is well, but then it is standard so why shouldn't it be? have mods planned and will still use this oil i think, a compamy like castrol isn't going to produce cr*p imo.

My dealer told me that Subaru don't recommend fully synth which is why they put in semi synth oil.

One local dealer uses Magnatec (10/40 semi) while the other uses Mobil 1 (0/40 fully synth.)
Maybe they have similar oil debates as on here too...

Too thin!
10/40 10/50 is the way to go.
Do a search... and have lots of spare time to read all the posts.

While you may think that Subaru know best, stripping down an engine from a car that has only had main dealer care may change your mind.

Now Subaru recommend that you go with a thicker oil if you are using the car in higher temperatures or with heavy use most of the time.

I would only use a fully synthetic Ester based oil, which would be something like Millers CFS, Motul 300v, Castrol RS, Silkolene Pro and similar oils (in your preferred grade). We use Millers 10/40 for standard cars, and 10/60 or 15/60 for modified cars including my own car.

I'd go with Silkolene PRO S 10w-50 if it's heavily modded.

Cheers
