Top mount charge coolers
I'm looking for some feed back on the new top mount charge cooler set ups presently being marketed by Pace and TSL (for the new age Impreza) - how effective are they, what are the likely expected performance gains, are they a better option than a FMIC?
Thanks
Thanks

I would be interested in the dyno results, when they are available.
TSL have done the first stage mods to my 03 Spec C, ECUTEK remap and pulse extraction exhaust (with cat) (326BHp, 340ft/lb ) obviously the charge cooler or an FMIC would be the next step but I would agreed its a significant wedge!!! Hence the need to weigh up the options.

I have no experience of the TSL or Pace charge coolers but my experience of charge coolers generally has been very disappointing. For instance, a good FMIC can maintain charge air at the throttlebody at around 2 deg C over ambient, cruising up to 4,500 rpm. Checking the charge temp is not rocket science but I have seen no specific published information from the manufactures.
A lot of money to spend on something if you are not convinced it works and there is no conclusive evidence.

Sean, How you doing fella?
dont know about you, and without knowing anyone who has one and the technical advantages/disadvantages, i cant see past the fact that you are paying a lot of money to use something that still sits in the interwarmer postion.
P1doc is the only one i have seen post on here that he has one. maybe ask TSL nicely if they will give you contact details of anyone else they have supplied.
By the way, just bought one of harveys hybrid FMIC's to fit on your old car.

Cheers Mark/Harvey - I know the FMIC is the usual way to go but, I was concerned about cutting and modifiying the front of the car and the volume of boosted air needed to fill the pipes to the FMIC and its potential to cause lag.

there was another scooby owner on here who had put chargecooler on-do a search he had pics and a bit more tech data,it is expensive but i am happy low lag good response and already paid off due to a bit of extra work so i can now go and modify my brakes/suspension
martin
ps search for scrappydoo2-had chargecooler for his wrx

Hi guys.
Personally I would go for the FMIC ( proven performance improvement ) and when fitted correctly look very trick
I personally did not notice any additional lag after fitting my FMIC but the improvement was obvious.

PS how about letting me have a passenger seat test before and after the FMIC installation for comparison purposes - I'll bring the spare underwear just in case!!!
