Size of pipework for fmic?

Size of pipework for fmic?
I would assume that smaller pipework, 50mm v's 75mm for arguments sake would result in higher air speed and help to reduce lag, but subsequently put a limit on how much air can be flowed through it?
Has anyone got any info on this, such as the maximum power you can expect using a given size of pipework or the pro's and cons of using different sizes.
