Do a search for these types of faults-what you describe is the classic symptoms of MAF failiure-take it easy untill its fixed,as a failing MAF can cause DET ,which can smash your engine to bits quite easily.
You should be able to get one for about £80 odd(presuming its a classic shape scoob)

Hunting revs could be several things, fault finding is a laugh isnt it....
Could also be Lambda sensor.

Apparently if you disconnect the MAF whilst engine running the engine should die if your MAF is OK.

Hope you get it sorted.

Check MAF first. More then likely the cause. Especially if got an induction kit.

Think its something like £270 FOR A NEW ONE FROM MAIN DEALER. ONLY 40-50 FROM BREAKER.

Wont do you any harm getting a new one weather it needs it or not really,as its nigh on a consumable item nowadays!!! You'll have to make sure that your K&N hasnt got too much oil on it,as it can contaminate the MAF with a film of oil-which could basically bugger up your new MAF if too much oil is the case.
Personally, you cant go wrong with a std paper filter if youre not running big power-STI paper ones are supposed to be pretty good.Paper ones dont contaminate your MAF.

Gary.

this is the most common thing with imprezas from what i can see, mine did it and when andy f put in the apexi and mapped it ut went away, said it could be the lambda sensor, i wouldnt worry about it to be honest
