Question Check engine light

Afternoon all

I've just had a call from Colin (Scoob99) and his check engine light came on earlier for a couple of seconds whilst he was stuck in traffic but then went out again on its own He pulled in and checked the car but said that everything was fine so he carried on. He then sat in traffic for another hour and it didn't come on again

What would cause the check engine light to flick on then go off again like that? His car is a MY98 UK turbo with a de-cat centre section and am induction kit.

The car drives perfectly now and sounds perfect too. He is away from his pc today so can't post so I said I'll call him back if anyone had any ideas.

Thanks for reading

With something like that its likely to be a faulty sensor. Ive got the same car and every couple of weeks mine does it. Its just a dodgey knock sensor.

Check the earths.

I had the CEL keep coming up after driving for 1/2hr or so, then it would just disappear after stopping in traffic or parking. I did an ECU check & it was about 5 codes which I thought was odd?

Turns out that when my gearbox was replaced they forgot to replace the earth to it. Got the earth replaced and no more CEL

Good points I'll relay both on in the morning Hopefully the log will show which sensor it was.
