Unhappy Please help with my dead fuel pump...

Hi all, i am new to the forums so please be gentle.

I am the proud owner of a MY97 Jap import, that unforunately has a dead fuel pump (just went to start it one day, and it was dead - go figure!!). My problem now is this, i am not in a position to blow a wedge on a new pump, + i'm planning nitrous and a few other goodies in the not too distant future and realise i'll need a good pump then anyway. But for the time being my baby is in the garage and I'm back driving my Rev2 MR2 .

My question is this, i have found a Version 8 STI pump on ebay for virtually nothing which looks just like the dead pump i pulled from my MY97 Scooby
and, yes you've guessed, i want to know will it fit

PLEASE SAY YES PLEASE SAY YES PLEASE SAY YES

and if it won't fit can some one please point me in the direction of someone who may have a spare one going cheap

many thanks in advance

Dave

Check the connections first and that you actually have power to the pump (1st 2 seconds of turning on ignition - with immobilser turned off or whilst cranking)....Just recently had to fix a mates scoob with a dead pump, which turned out to be a corroded connector for the fuel pump which had melted.

cheers Ali,
i checked the connection block as i removed my old pump (i am lead to believe that the relay/circuit in this area is poor anyway) and every thing seemed ok but admitadely i didnt think to check for power.

Also it might help if i give a bit more info -
i noticed a couple of times before she died that when i floored it - on the motorway whilst overtaking for exampl - there was a sudden drop off in power, which would rectify itself almost imediately, and once or twice she would loose power, then regain power a few times all in the space of a second or two. i thought it might have been the overboost protection thingy kicking in, untill i found my pump was dead.

but regardless of all that, and lets say my pump is dead - i've ordered the version 8 sti one anywho! - will the sti pump fit like i say, it looks identical and an added bonus - if true - is i've heard the sti pumps had a slighty higher flow rate, a good thing surely?

thanks again

I gave my 98 TypeR pump away to someone on SN as a spare for their rally car, when I upgraded to a Walbro unit.

If you PM me a number, Ill see if I can get him to give you a call.

He is near me in Kent, so you may need to collect or pay postage.

It should be an identical unit to yours.

Oddly enough my fuel pump decided to stop pumping last night so I had to call the AA out. Spookily it decided to start working again given a few pokes.

I've decided to replace it as a precaution, and since I have a Tek3 churning out more power so could do with an uprated pump anyway. I have this one on order, along with a new relay.
