Really soory to hear about ur problems mate...scoobyclinic generally have a good rep (have not used them myself) and would not risk doing something so stupid as reputation is more imp than money in the scooby world

id look at the garage in birmingham? who are they?
also who transported the car?

You never know

That still dosn't alter the fact of the rediculous initial price differences. Why couldn't scoobyclinic suggest an engine swap at a competitive price. These rediculous prices for repaires are what puts people off buying the great car

£2800! I'd expect something pretty special for that.

Foriegn car spares were actually more than reasonable with the actual fixing of the car. they said that a few other bits and pieces were missing..... a couple of hoses, a few broken brackets etc. They put new ones in free and as far as i can tell removed hoses from one of the owners STI to put on mine to get me going today as they didn't have new ones available at short notice.

I'm fairly annoyed the engine has walked.......... the police report is in and they assure me they will get back to me with an update tomorrow.

my problems seem to be getting worse. I've driven 150 miles, there is a massive pool of "stuff " on top of the engine. Smoke is billowing everywhere and the check engine light has come on. The car whines when i turn the steering wheel so i suspect that io have a leak around the power steering fluid resevior. Seriously.... i've owned this imprea for less than 2 months...... and the bloody thing is killing me!

The ' Clinic' are an honest professional operation and they would not have any need of the remains of a broken engine. I am sure they, like us, have seen too many to want another one, No matter what it might be.

I expect there is a misunderstanding here and it is correct; bbs posters should consider the legal implications of what they are saying before they post up supposition rather than fact.

I am not sure if the guy ever accused any one company, he just says SOMEONE has got the engine!

I can't see Scoobyclinic doing it (or any of the "main" outfits so often talked about on here), they would lose more in reputation than a broken engine would reward them!

I am sure they would have used something to put in the boot before the engine, but is it not worth checking to see if theres any marks that would suggest an oily engine has been there? or is it cleaner than usual?

thinking outside the box...

You have a power steering leak. probably from the resovoir - they are common to fail on classics. In fact mine failed just after an engine rebuild. Its cos theyve sat still for so long and then you disturb the seals when you remove and refit especially where they are crimped around the top.
Nothing a tube of gasket seal wont fix.
Engine check light could be something simple too.

I hope you get it sorted, and end up happy with your car. And I hope you find your old engine. I live not far from scoobyclinic, who would be my natural choice for work.
Still seems a bit steep for a recon/rebuild

Lets hope you got an Impreza engine and not a Legacy one then; £950 fitted and drive away is VERY cheap. How many bolts hold the coil packs in the heads one or two??

I saved tons of money doing it that way, although i'm sure many would argue that with scooby clinics obvious expertise ( hence the reason i sent the car there first ) that :

a) I wouldn't be in the position now where my car has had to go back because of this power steering leak
b) a rebuilt short end would be a better option in the long term

But then, as I could not afford the £2700 route ( not 3 weeks after buying the car anyway ) , I had to find a reasonable alternative that suited me.

I've had my uk turbo about 3 months, half of that has been spent with the car sitting on my drive suffering from the same fault, a melted piston. I used to be a mechanic so decided to take the job on myself. Its not far off completion now, but i am nearly £2000 worse off. £2700 for a professional rebuild doesnt seem too bad to me.

I have retracted my posting as it seems to have regrettably caused offence to the parties involved.

I did not set out to offend any individual party, but I apologise to those that were offended inadvertently.

I hope they can accept this apology, in the spirit in which it was intended.

Don't worry. I allways offend somebody, without trying.
