Default PETROL into a DIESEL engine

A friend of mine has offered me a clio 1.9 diesel, for nothing, which had petrol put in instead of diesel.

I know it is a non-runner now, but.. wonder what the effects typically are ?

Does it blow the head?
Does it mean whole fuel system needs replacing?

Any thoughts or advice greatly appreciated.

I am sure I have seen posts about this before

petrol into a diesel should be ok how much did he put in ?

I would top it up as soon as possible with diesel and drive the car until you have used the tank

I put petrol into my diesel van (about £15 worth) quickly topped up with diesle and the van ran fine

cheers

generally speaking.................you can simply drain the full system and then re-fill with the correct fuel, sometimes a pig to start initially but shouldn't have any long lasting effects...................

Agree with suggestions but sounds like it has been left standing with petrol in it??

Might be worth oiling bores before turning it over and also it might have fubar'd the diesel pump (not cheap to replace) as the seals won't like petrol sitting in it.. imho..

Think it has been stood for months with petrol in it, so I'll assume a new diesel pump as a minimum. Guess I'll start looking for the relevant Haynes manual.

Thanks Guys

they say you need to put £5 of petrol for every full tank of diesel you use, keeps the system running clean. Not sure how true this is and only done it once it by mistake.. didn't cause me any harm though.
