Default Is it worth wraping a De-cat Downpipe?

Hi all,

Busy getting my car ready for a re-map at the end of the month. One of obvious mods on the list is a decent de-cat exhaust. Want to keep it pretty quiet and subtle looking so i was thinking going for the ScoobySport system, anyone got one of these or have any opinions on it?

Just wondered how much benefit there is to be had by wraping the downpipe?

Kenny

Well worth wrapping the DP while it is off the car. You loose the subaru heat shields when you fit the decat and the heat that rises into the TMIC above is astonishing when the car is running and standing still.

Graham.

Wrap it by all means, keeps the gasses hot and makes them flow through the pipe better.
It won't make it any quieter though, (maybe reading your post wrong there)

Sorry should have said i was refering to how much does it help with the heat side of things, i only mentioned my choice of exhaust to get some feed back on it.

assuming you use 2" wide wrap how much would you need? What is the best stuff to use? and where's the best place to get it?

Best to try and get the heatshield back on but you will have to cut it.

Get some wrap from here http://www.agriemach.com/ mention SN and get a discount. There is a table on the site that tells you how much wrap is needed

IMHO you must refit the turbo heat shield. The clutch and brake fluid reservoirs are right by the turbo!
Agree with the above supplier, good guys (used them myself)

Ill see what the shield looks like when it comes off and see if i can find a way of re-fitting it, the last thing i want though is a rattling heatshield.
The wrap looks as good as any i've seen and it's far cheaper too, ill get some ordered up tomorrow. Do you use any of the glue they've got to help hold it in place while you're fitting it or just use the stainless bands?

Ideally yes, obviously you will realistically only be able to do off the car, ie prior to fitting.

Well yeah

I've got the pipe sat in the living room, so may give it a try...

the more you wrap the better..

the further you wrap, the better, but with diminishing returns..

I have wrapped the headers, the up pipe, and the whole down pipe.

I had to kit mine, very easy though. I used a jigsaw with metal blade, just kept cutting until enough was off to refit.
