Whats the sump capacity of a Classic MY2000??

Last thing I want to do is overfill it like I did with the gearbox oil!!

Oil Filter has been soaking in an air-tight container for the last 2 weeks, I have added little and often to it ........ so it should be ready soon!!

How much you put in depeds on how much you drain out

Typically 4.5 litres give or take a few 100ml - dump in 4 and a bit, then fire it up for a few seconds, switch off, then recheck levels and take it from there ('bout a pint between max and min).

 

Do you think we should bill him for "consultants fees".
I'm sure he doesn't come cheap in his field.
Anyway don't forget to oil that ole sealing ring on the filter.
That filter too, gotta get it tight enough but don't overtighten.

Put in no more than 6 litres, and when you can see it down the oil filler spout, stop.

No need for the **** oil filling levels / oil filter filling protocol / crank sensor off to spin over to gain oil pressure with no load procedure, just do as you feel comfortable with.


Obviously just a suggestion, no liabilities if your non subaru serviced motor dies.

OK, pour until I see the top of the oil down the filler spout .... thanks for that, one more thing - do you use a torch to look down the filler hole??

No need for a torch just keep pouring until it flows over the top. Mind it doesnt go on the those lovely blue suede shoes though.

 

Yeah or you could use a lighter..

 

So Pete, are you going to disconnect the crank sensor, or are you going to chance it?

 

Can't believe you lot! If you had told Pete to put in 1.5 ltrs he would have blown the bearings and you could have said "there you go, even standard cars blow up"! Instead, you tell him the correct amount - fill to the top!

{Whisper... at least we didn't tell him about using turps or kerosene to flush old oil out of the engine and spin it up until he got pressure on the turps hehe that'll confuse him when he refills it and wonders why its all dirty in the new oil}

 

Trouble is he's gonna be doing plugs next ain't he.
Then air filter, petrol filter and then, dear oh dear, will he attempt the cambelt?

Turps in the engine and run it to strip the old oil away sounds a superb idea - I'll do that, take it for a full blast run to get it nice and hot so it all drains out well.

Tomorrows the day!! Ooooooo I'm all a shaking, I've done loads of services myself before - but never on such a special, sensitive, tender car as the Impreza! Scared stiff!!

Well, I've just gone and done it ............. an Oil change on a Subaru Impreza Turbo ..

WITHOUT the **** Procedure!!

No soaking the filter overnight,

No Crank Sensor removal

No spark plug removal

No checking of Cocklink lights

and NO Big-Ends destroyed ............ I'm a bit worried as it was simple, just the same as on any other car!! I have clearly forgotten something

All the Old Women and ***** on here can't be wrong can they?? Surely I haven't just done it without the ***** recommended step-by-step guide .... without it blowing up!!

To all the Old Boring **** Geeks ......... get a life and stop scaring the Newcomers!!

Remember Pete, they usually let go JUST AFTER an oil change, often after a high speed run or a bit of spirited driving... so you should be ok there then!

 

You sure you didn't drain the gearbox oil now

 

hope you bought a lottery ticket too?

 

remove the oil and filter
get 4.5lts of oil your choice fill the filter this take about 2 mins
out of the 4.5lts put the rest in the engine
start up and take for a ride switch off and top up if needed in the morning when car has been stood for a while for a true reading paul

WHAT PURPOSE DOES THIS SERVE ???
ALL YOU NEED TOO DO IS GET 4.5LTS OF OIL AND GET THE OLD OIL WARM
DROP THE OIL AND FILTER FILL UP THE FILTER WITH NEW OIL THIS SHOULD TAKE A COUPLE OF MINUTES PUT THE REMAINING OIL FROM YOUR 4.5LTS INTO THE ENGINE AND START UP LET IT TICK OVER FOR A COUPLE OF MINUTES AND SWITCH OFF CHECK FOR LEAKS AND SHUT BONNET CHECK OIL LEVEL IN THE MORNING BEFORE STARTING TOO GET A TRUE READING
