Max Boost on STi 3?
#4
Hi
Sorry to jump on this thread, but thought best rather than start a new 1
Does anyone know what the max safe boost level is you can run on an Sti 3, with standard ecu, the car is running a full 3" system including de-cat, a k&n and bov.
Other than that engine wise it's standard.
It was running 1bar when I bought it, however there was a slight exhaust leak and also the clutch was shagged.
I have just got it back after having the clutch replaced and now it's running 1.2bar and I want to be sure this is safe (as I don't want to be melting it).
If it's not safe what is the max it should be running.
Cheers
P.s I only run it on optimax or if im caught short bp ultimate.

I ran my Sti v3 with 3''decat and Optimax @ 1.3 bar = 314 bhp/280 lbft. Ran for 2 years and raced at this level. Head gaskets blew!
Fitted head studs, heads done by API Engines, added lots more and now the same stock engine runs 407 x 340 on Optimax and boost addative (absolutly essential).
Running 1.4 peak on a TD o5 20g.
Exactly as Gerry states, get an Apexti FC mapped by a proven expert, ie Andy F, now available on Group Buy @ £650.
Cracking solid engine, but only on Optimax + NF!

Ok cheers guys, just been out in it for a propper run, and the peak is 1.25 bar but it seems to be anywhere between 1bar and 1.25.
In 1st it's usually 1bar max but in 2nd and 3rd 1.2bar and then 4th and 5th it will creap up tp 1.25.
Would it be best to turn it down to 1 bar max ?
Whats the best octane booster to use in it ?

I believe that you get (generally) what you pay for.
Lots of opinions of course (and here is another), but AndyF said NF Booster should be used in my '407'. Very expensive for everyday use imho, but essential for my Weekend Warrior.
That is the gain with the apexi, can be mapped for optimax (or straight unleaded!) the power is simply less with the poorer fuel rating (obviously).
I ran my Stiv3 on Optimax and 1.33 max boost spikes to 8000 rpm and thrashed it to near death(stock ecu). Gasket suddenly gave up in the end.
David at API was impressed with the engine internals when we took the heads off at API.
