i get a quick flicker of red on the knocklink every now and then at idle or below 2000 revs- why?
also the car runs a bit unresponsive somedays and then seems responsive on other days?
and no fault codes
any ideas?

check the sensor hasn't rattled itself loose, and that you have a clean earth supply.

the engine isn't rattling when running I presume? The knocklink going mad off load can be an indication of bearing failure.

listen for a growl in the engine as you rev it gently.
should be apparent if the bearings are on their way to the sump.

Chuck the CockLink in the bin ..................... no red lights!!

Drive it and enjoy it .............. throw some REDEX Injection Cleaner through it (wait for a nearly empty tank and tip the whole bottle in)

Failing that, go to bed and dream about all the bad things a flickering red light might mean .............. Big Ends!! Holed Piston!! Main Bearings Grumbling!! Head lifting off Block!! Gears Rattling off their Shafts!! .....................

Or, if its running fine, face up to the fact that its just something rattling or resonating somewhere ...........................

Red lights don't always spell disaster - stop looking for it ... and bin the CockLink!

Have you ever said anything constuctive? You seem to be able to fix cars with you witchdoctor like driving senors, maby you should get ride of your ecu as that has knock control. Or are you just some big "joker" thats made alot of post for fun? do you really mean what you say.

Knocklinks are great. Look around who uses them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It my not be anything but if his bigends are on the way out wouldn't it be good to know about it sooner than later to save alot more damage.

Or am i way of track here?

The day scare stories and **** procedures get dumped I will leave - seems fair to me!!

Someone has to protect the gullible from the well meaning, but flawed, hobbyists!!

Back on topic:

You might want to try another knock sesor as i have one here that makes alot of noise for no reson.

Back off topic:

pslewis you seem to be the only one with your frame of thought out of thousands so don't you fell like the odd one out.
This is a Subaru hobbyists forum so with that comes mods and with that comes more chance of engine failure so there is nothing wrong with a bit of monitering stuff.
Can you fell when you fuel tank is getting empty or is that gauge a wast of time to.

So, you place your trust in a knock sensor thats crap??

This is EXACTLY my point, why worry yourself when there is no need to by fitting mickey mouse gear?? All you are doing is introducing something else that could go wrong!

I 'may' be in the minority here amongst the ***** .... but, I can assure you, I am in the majority when you factor in all the Subaru owners around the world who just drive the car and not imagine it to be some mythical, magical machine!! You would all fit extremely well in the local stamp collectors club!

It'll come with age Dave. When you run the risk of dying in your sleep every night, why have the added worry of some little red light in your car

It's not going to go pop unless you've pissed about with it ...............

And if you have, well, thats another story!!
