Default What d/v for a Hybrid fmic?

Looking to upgrade my intercooler on my sti5 as part of a mini "phase 2" project and was thinking of fitting a hybrid fmic. Would I be able to reuse the dump valve from my current i/c or would I need another one.

Not interested in a vta but would a standard d/v from another year of sti fit if mine was no good?

Cheers

Oh yes, and has anyone bought a hydrid from ebay? They look mega cheap and I wondered if there was a catch, cheap copy, old stock etc?

Hi.

Hybrid FMIC's are excellent in build quality, and they're great vfm. There are some Hybrid copies around on Ebay, so be careful, as sometimes quality can be an issue on the copies.

You can always contact Harvey Smith, as he is the one that supplied the majority of the Hybrid FMIC's here at SN, and where I got mine from. Great guy, highly recommend him.

As for the dump valve, I think you'll have to go aftermarket. A Forge recirc one would be a good option.

i have the hybrid copy and it is going in tomorrow to be fitted.
i have the same issues with the bov as mine fits directly onto the tmic

i have to get 1 for a 98 and hope my mechanic can find some samco/similar to make it fit.
the outlet on the fmic pipework is 35mm and i think most 98 dump-valves are 25mm
so its either a 35-25 reducer or hope he can sort summink out . . .
heres a couple of pics of my fmic

Thats the same FMIC as mine.
I bought a 38mm to 25mm 90degree reducer of ebay. Think it was £15.

Can just see it in this pic

Did you guys get them form ebay and if so what make are they? If you don't mind me asking how much did they set you back (PM me if ytou want) and how well do you feel they work?

Have been looking at the Hybrid ones as well as the copies but think I'll go with the original unless the copies are much cheaper.

Wink

I used a Blitz SSDV for my Hybrid install but machined a larger flange to fit so I didn't have to reduce the pipe too much iirc my reducer was 38mm to 32mm
HERE is a link to my install

Cheers

Yep, got mine off ebay, I paid £360 delivered but can be got a lot cheaper now. Think somebody off here is selling them for around £250.
The make is autobahn88.
Still waiting for mapping on my Apexi pfc so car is not running right yet, but just by changing from my TMIC to this FMIC my knock went from a max of 49 to a max of 19 so must have bought the intake temps down conciderably.

I see from your thread you had to cut the pipe from turbo. I did not have to do this and my car is same year/manifold type as yours, but as you can see from the pic is was close

made me promises and never went through with them and i wouldn't want the same to happen to anyone off here
i waited so long for it to eventually come i had to cancel the fitting TWICE
for the inconvenience he promised me a free dump-valve . . . NOTHING . . .

anyways,being fitted from tomorrow(sunday)
cheers for advice on pipe btw lads . . even though it aint my thread lol
ive got some 35mm and some 25mm , , , think i'll bodge it for the meantime till i get the proper stuff

I used the standard recirc valve from a MY00 intercooler, by making a bracket for it to attach to.

I asked a local ally welder to weld a piece of 35mm tube to a 6mm plate, which he did for £5
I then just drilled holes in the right places to mount it to the plate, and attached it to the DV takeoff with a piece of silicon hose.

I didn't want to use a VTA due to the embarassing noises it makes, but with the addition of a K&N filter, it sounds like one anyway

i thought about getting that thing TSL do . . and reversing it . .
its a bracket so as you can fit 98 bovs to 00 top mounts.
but at over 30 quid thought i may as well get a new un and sell the 1 i already got
