Oil driping from manifold bolt onto exhaust plate & smoking

Oil driping from manifold bolt onto exhaust plate & smoking
Hi
My friend has a 96 WRX and it started to smoke now and then from the left side of the engine , so we jacked it up and see where it was comming from, we found it was coming from behind the exhaust heat plate , took that off to find that the bolts that hold the manifold to the head had oil trickling down the bolt and onto the heat plate and burning off , any ideas what would cause this ?

Sounds similar to a problem I had with my exes Legacy GTB import, that was down to rocker cover gasket leak
