Default Maf error, but not the maf ?

Trying to fix a mates 95 wrx. Last night it blew an intercooler hose off and I sorted that but it's still running rough. Done a cel test and got error 23 (maf) Tried maf from one of my scoobs and still get error 23, tried ecu reset and still no joy ? Any ideas anyone ?

Have now run the maf off this car on mine and it works fine so not the maf. Very confused. Have tested coil packs and they seem okay, just took plugs out and they are black, not sure how old they are but am going to replace anyway. Shows it's been running rich I suppose.

Perhaps a better decription will help. Car runs but idles baddly before reseting ecu it would not rev above 4500 rpm, take it thats an ecu protection ? What am I missing here ?

Not sure but I don't think so, for that to go at the same time as the cooler pipe blows off don't make sense. Also never know a car to run this bad with a o2 sensor gone. Pinning my hope on plugs as old ones are a mess, plus then the rich running until it got to my place may have sent them too far.

Thanks for the reply though fella.

if computers pretty sure its the maf.but the mafs ok,in my opinion it can only mean a break in the wiring going to the maf. just gotta trace it now.

I thought that too but unpluging both mafs whilst running cut the engine. I know that's not a very scientific test but car runs spot on now
