Angry Bloody dipstick lead me to oil overfill

Hi guys,

My dipstick reading was below mark, so I added some oil. Run the engine a bit wait and read again, still below mark. Add more oil, waited a bit, still no progress. Did it again and suddenly oil was way much over mark!
That sucks. It felt like the oil was everywhere but in the dipstick area.

Now I can't drive the car anymore, way too much oil. Car is under warranty so I have to go to the main dealer etc... I haven't run the engine though, but I'm wondering if the boost solenoid is going to be all soaked.

Is anyone here have ever heard of this problem? It really looks to me like the oil had cloted around the dipstick area... (I always did several reading etc...)

I had trouble with mine too.

This is my method.
- Open garage, get car out and park up outside the house.
- Wait 10-20minutes then check the oil.

Checking with the engine cold after being left overnight, I couldn't get a reading, virtually no oil on the stick. Conversely, getting the engine warm, I could get a clean reading after 10-20minutes due to too much oil around.

I dunno if it's more accurate or just makes me feel better that I can see a reading, probably the latter.

I think that if you put the right amount in and always check it the same way, you shouldn't go wrong.

J.

The oil has a habit of wicking up the dipstick tube, to over come pull the dip stick halfway out and leave for 10 mins b4 checking, or do what I do, I have a short piece of fuel pipe and I just take the stick out, use the pipe to blow the excess oil out of the tube then check as normal, same result every time.

Well, in my case I'm not sure it could have made a difference as it was more about a lack of oil in the tube.

Just got my car back today, cost me 40 quids to have the extra oil removed.
I'd like the idea of having a vacuum pump to do it myself next time it happens or I won't ever feel confortable toping up the oil myself anymore ... Any recommendation where to get this?
Also any idea of how much litres is in a cm of dipstick?

What's wrong with gettin on the floor and undoing the sump plug yourself, 40 quid seems a bit excessive to drain a bit of oil out. You can get an oil vacum pump from most marine chandlers, most marine engines cant be drained from the bottom so u have to take it out the top.

I would have prefered to be prepared to do that:
1) I needed a proper oil pan.
2) I don't know where's the plug and if I could access it easily without raising the height of the car.
3) I dunno the torque setting for that plug. Too much torque and I could damage the screw, not enough and I could risk losing it.

Indeed, I think that wasn't fair from a "6 stars" service point of view... But nowadays dealer service departements are more into making money than into making the customer happy. They have enough work already to really don't care about you going some other place. Next car I'll try an import, a type 25 maybe?
