Default Disconnecting Boost Solenoid

Does anyone know what effect it would have on the running of the car if I was running a dawes device and completely disconnected the boost solenoid...ie does this have any effect apart from controlling the maximum boost which is what the dawes will now be doing?

OE ECU will throw error codes and possible go into limp home mode.

Don't completely disconnet (the connector), leave it connected otherwise you'll throw up a CEL. Just disconnect the 2 pipes at the wastegate and turbo nipple end and blank them off.

The other thing you have to bear in mind is if the ECU goes in 'limp home' mode, where something is amiss and the ECU limits boost to 0.5 bar or so. Of course the Dawes will override this.

Ok, so are you saying that as long as I don't disconnect the electrical connector (2 wires), it doesnt matter if I disconnect the vacuum pipes so that no vacuum goes through the solenoid, only through the dawes?

Cheers for the picture, should allow me to explain better. I have disconnected the top pipe (one with hand touching it) and the slightly bigger vacuum pipe that comes out of the bottom. I have connected the Dawes in place of the solenoid.

The reason I did this is because the car was overboosting massively before on the standard setup so assumed the solenoid wasnt working properly.

I wanted to know if there would be any negative effects by me doing the above?

None of those, well - not that end anyway. remove the pipes at the turbo and wastegate, not the BCS. Then blank them off. This guarentees when you come to reuse the BCS at a later date (and you will ) no crap has got into it etc.

Bugger another post in front of mine

In that case, you have long lengths of pipework, including a restrictor between the turbo , Dawes and wastegate. If it works, well then fine.

But I wouldn't do it that way, I'd do it the way I described earlier, keeping pipe lengths to a minimum.

Brake cleaner down all the pipes, and an ECU reset via the plugs under the steering column. This pulses the BCS hence the cleaner gets put through it.

Manouvre yourself so you can look straight up behind the dash and there will be 2 light green conectors (single wire on each side) and two black connectors....wont be too hard ot find and don't need to remove any panels
