Default Injector Noise??

Its an sti 2 and when the car is hot, a rattly/tapping noise can be heard from underneath the car/engine. The shims have been checked and are perfect and the big ends are perfect.
It only happens sometimes but fairly audible when it does happen. The mechanis also said it could be the injectors and I am just wondering, could these make a simular noise to whats described? Its turning out to be a bit of a mystery.
Cheers.

Thanks Dean,

So this could well be the problem. If it is this, what actually is happening that makes the noise. Are yours still noisy?

yes mine are still noisy, I was told by well known users on here that it is normal especially on certain makes & size, Has yours always done this , ??
If not i believe a fuel system clean & a good garage can help.

Well I have only had the car since Jan as a fresh import but as far as I am aware, it was ok at the start. The guy that checked the shims said the engine was in excellent condition. When you mean a fuel system clean, do you mean something they will put with the fuel to clean any cr*p in the injectors.
Is it possible the noise is happening because of dirt in one of the injectors?
Thanks mate.

It.s mpre than an adittive, It's an actual machine which runs a high strength fuel stroke cleaner mix, this will decoke pistons & Valves etc as well as removing deposits from injectors.

Ther is a proper name for it , but my brains offline I'll try to find out, Im sure Trent Saab (TSL) do it, I also know the garage close to me does it , as i had it done on a previous car.

Thanks Dean for all the help. Its just difficult to see how a dirty injector could make the noise? Maybe I just dont understand it well enough.

I have an sti4 and also get a tapping noise from it, particularly after driving the car hard. I have had the car for 2 years and done 30k in it, the noise wasn't there when I got it, or wasn't as noticeable at least. It has been there for quite some time now though, seems to come and go, and tends to settle down if the car is driven more gently for a while. I keep thinking it sounds louder than some others I have heard, but with it remaining constant for quite a long time and my engine still being intact would seem to suggest whatever is causing it can't be that bad.

It would be nice if it wasn't there but I'm not going to spend a load of cash trying to identify and rectify it as it doesn't seem to affect performance, knocklink activity or anything else.

Ken,
Yeah it doesnt affect my car in any way either but like yourself the nosuie can be abit annoying. Mine is exactly as you described regarding when it happens. Can yours be heard more from underneath as when I pop the bonnet, the engine sounds perfect but then put your head under the car and you can sometimes hear the intermittent tapping sound. It kinda sounds like a heatshield but I cannot see anything loose.
