Thumbs up Mines ecu , unichip and fcd a good combo?

As above ive got these fitted to my 93wrx , No problems as yet! but wandering if it would be suitably mapped for unleaded or optimax , or for jap fuel. seeing as the mines ecu is was fitted in japan and the dastek unichip in england. any thoughts or suggestion appreciated

thanks
karl

Not what you want to hear mate but i have read nothing but bad news about mines. Because it is intended for the jap market it is set up for 100+ron fuel. It runs a lot of ignition advance and is more aggressive than the 240ps and 260 ps maps - not good when we have only 98max ron over here. If i were you i would take it out and swap it for a 95-96 spec ecu which is a "z4" ecu. This will give you a nice safe 260bhp. Failing that just take out the mines and keep to the 240 ps map.
I will stand to be corrected on this one.
I have however had an engine go bang and its not nice on the wallet!!!!!

i belive, that all the unichip did was raise the fuel cut?
or was that a super chip

anyway my advice is to tread carefully with a mines ecu for the reasons given above

a z4 went on ebay for 76 quid the other week. I have one too in my modded classic wagon. No knockilink activity with optimax fuel. Safe 260 ps to me

The Unichip is a piggy back ecu that controls fueling and ignition, you can also get a boost control kit for it. It is one solution to re-mapping as you retain all the normal ecu funtions (idle, aircon etc), and the Unichip looks after the fueling and ignition.

The fcd just stops the fuel cutting at a certain boost point, allowing you to run more boost. Which suggests that the boost has been increased.

Try getting in touch with the previous owner as they will be able to confirm what fuel the Unichip is mapped for.

Ive tried before to locate the previuos owner but they have since moved.
so the mines ecu is set to run on 100 ron fuel and control the idle etc and the unichip alters ignition timing and the amount of time the injecters are open for.

is there any other way of finding out what the unichip and mines ecu are mapped to do
also if the unichip controls fuelling and ignition to run higher boost(manual boost contrller fitted)
what the **** does a mines ecu do that a standard one cant???

mines ecu is was fitted in japan and the dastek unichip in england
This would tend to suggest the previous owner/s either had a problem or was advised to have the car 'adjusted' to suit UK Fuel by having the 'piggyback' ecu fitted (as the Dastek Unichip was fitted in the UK)
what the **** does a mines ecu do that a standard one cant???
The Mines ECU will have a more agressive Ignition map along with a modified Fuel map to suit running higher boost on Japanese Fuel so effectively back to back would give a significant increase in power/torque over the standard ECU.
It would be wise to get a someone to check the map in the unichip to make sure that it has been mapped to account for UK fuel - until then it would prolly be an idea to use Optimax or another super unleaded fuel with octane booster and fit a Knocklink to make sure the engine isn't detonating

Cheers

Default Unichip

I think I have heard of Power Engineering doing Unichips...but i could be wrong

Have one on mine but I am in South Africa

To re-iterate what others have said, it basically alters the signals to the ECU with regards to fuel and timing.

A lot of cars hererun the Unichip and they go just fine ... good results too
checkout - www.subaruclub.co.za

There are dyno run results and a forum there!

Try here - www.dastek.co.uk they should be able to help with finding a mapper close to you.

Or I do know that Powerstation do Unichip mapping.
