Default MY04 WRX, ECU reset method

Hi to everyone,

Is it possible to reset the ECU of my MY04 WRX by disconnecting the battery for 30 min.? I read somewhere on the forum that the method works for the older models only, can anyone confirm please?

If the answer is negative, which is the way to have the ECU resetted?

Many thanks for taking the time to answer!

Someone can correct me on the exact terminology, but new age cars adapt dynamically to driving, engine and petrol conditions. Older cars didn't. So you could get a situation on a classic where the ECU would adjust the ECU for a bad batch of petrol, but then leave it there. A new age car will return to the previous settings when it is able too. So if you are just wanting to reset the ECU for this type of reason - no need it should be able to do it anyway automatically.

I reset mine (MY01) with my PSI3 data monitor, they are also good for fault code clearing and diagnosis.

Andrew

In answer to your question you cannot reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery as the ECU stores it's data on flash EPROM type memory which needs to be over-written.

The Subaru Select Monitor or the PSI SECS can reset the ECU but as previously mentioned the "newage" is pretty good at learning AFAIK the newage ECU even has some boost profile learning capability thrown in

I find that if you disconnect the battery and depress the brake pedal (brake circuit / lights discharges any capacitors) and then reconnect the battery, it resets the learning that the ECU has done. 01 WRX Bug, 03 WRX Blob.
