Default Differences in FE TD05/6 16g or 20g

Can someone tell me what the difference between a TD05/6 16g turbo and TD05/6 20g turbo is and which one is the better to go for?? Is it a case of merely weight or is it pressure or what??

Basically it's down to the size of the compressor wheel, 20g is bigger, more boost but more lag.

It depends on your ultimate goals and the other supporting mods, if the rest of the engine is standard ie injectors, fuel pump, and i/c and you don't intend on changing anything then 16g is more than good enough.

Depending on supporting mods a TD05/06 20g should do 400bhp but a TD05 16g will give you about 350bhp so it all depends on what your other mods are and where you want to go with the car

TD04 240-305bhp
TD04Hy 270-335bhp
TD05-16G 300-370bhp
TD05-18G 330-410bhp
TD05-20G 350-440bhp

You would need higher octane fuel to reach the upper end of each rating, midway is the practical maximum output on regular fuel with full supporting mods, below the lower figure you may be better with the next size down.

Thanks guys
So if at present im running with a full decat using a high flow cat downpipe, sti panel filter, sti intercooler and have had it tek3d would I need any other bits put on the car to take it upto 300 or a bit more bhp? I have the knock link fitted? and obviously would neeed a remap? Also if I for instance found a TD05 16g and its been ported will that make any difference??

Thanks Mark

You should make your 300bhp target with the TD05-16G and an appropriate remap.
I'd also consider a fuel pump at this stage.

What TD04 is it that you can get 270-335 BHP out of? Is it the standard turbo on any of the Imprezas?

Thanks

if you only want 300bhp then look at ebay for cheap standerd sti8 fuel pumps that are removed as others tune them up

picked mine up for about £20 and it had done approx 250 miles

It is an altered version of the OE TD04 turbo, fitted with a larger compressor wheel and other internal mods.
