Estimation of 0-100mph using 1/4 mile results?

Default Estimation of 0-100mph using 1/4 mile results?

Was trying to best guess a 0-100mph time using 1/4mile results:

My 1/4mile:

12.4secs@110mph
12.5secs@112mph

Tried to find the closest results in car mags, which inc 1/4mile and 0-100mph:

RCM Subaru: 12.5secs@114mph & 0-100mph in 9.4secs (ref: EVO issue 068)
Gfor3 Subaru:12.7secs@111mph & 0-100mph in 10.1secs (ref: EVO issue 068)
996 Turbo(man): 12.8secs@113mph & 0-100mph in 10secs (ref: EVO issue 070)
'99 GT3: 13.0secs@110mph & 0-100mph in 10.3secs (ref: Top Gear issue 073)

I understand that a 0-100mph may be timed differently to a 1/4mile run due to gearing. What would be a fair estimate of my 0-100mph?

Try http://www.letstorquebhp.com/ . It has a performance calculator which estimates 0-60, 0-100 and 1/4 mile times.

RCM Subaru: 12.5secs@114mph & 0-100mph in 9.4secs - Same time but slightly higher terminal
Gfor3 Subaru:12.7secs@111mph & 0-100mph in 10.1secs - Slower time and lower terminal
996 Turbo(man): 12.8secs@113mph & 0-100mph in 10secs - Slower time but 1mph (0.5mph to be accurate) faster terminal
'99 GT3: 13.0secs@110mph & 0-100mph in 10.3secs -Slower time and Terminal

Taking the above into account I'm guessing that it must be somewhere between 9.4secs and 10secs? Havent considered the gearing as I dont have the data available.

quarter mile 13.51 @ 109.4 in mine
according to my g-tech pro metre ;-)

If you can make 100mph in 3rd gear then it will be about 10 flat, otherwise about 10.5 seconds.

Dont the UKSTi 6speeders have to make 3 gearchanges aswell to hit 100mph?

What are the top speeds (in 3rd and 4th) on UKSTi 6Speeders?

it will go faster than that in 3rd....its geared to 102 i believe. ive crossed the 1/4 line still in 3rd and was doing 97 at the time.

oh and i doubt that the 6 speeder will make 100 in 3rd, although you do have an extra 500 or so revs to play with!

You need to be in 4th to make 100mph in the new age sti (uk and jap).
Figures i put into that calculator are as per Subaru Japan for my car (or within .5 sec) the 1/4 is dead on 13 secs at just under 108mph which is spot on, 0-60 in 4.3 which is spot on, pretty good

How can the Gfor3 Subaru do a 0-100mph in 10.1secs (making 3 gear changes) and mine have a slower estimated 0-100mph time (making the same 3 gear changes) when mine is a 0.2sec faster 1/4mile with a higher terminal.

Have I missed something?

That silulator is BS.

BOB, don't throw a fit mate. If you don't give the gearbox a beasting you are doing to be slower. Those times you manged are good, it's a quick car!

0-100 can be misleading, if you can do 0-99 in 9.5 seconds toping out in 3rd but it takes you 0.5 seconds to change into 4 then it makes it look slower all of sudden.

If you ran at the pod, the full slip info will be much more useful.

So you have yet to get a clean run!

Your second run was your best launch despite what you may think, it had the best 60ft time AND best 330ft time. A 1.80 60ft time is good for street tyres, especially at the pod. I would guess you got slow change on the 2nd run from 2nd to 3rd gear as the 1/8th terminal isn't as good as the 1st run, despite a better launch.

Are you using a 6 speed box? Any extra changes will add to the times to reach a certain speed, whilst not impacting hugely on E/Ts. Slow changes will **** up everything!

When do you need a cage/chute/harness at the pod Paul ? I would have thought 140 terminals would have them twitching a bit ?

chute is mandatory over 150mph

there are a whole raft of rules that they are looking at bring in. I have a draft copy and it would probably help for you to see them. THey are not going to enforce anything this year, but in 2006 they will, and it will be classed with minimum weights and roll bars for 11 second cars or quicker, 6 point or greater cages for cars under 10 seconds.

Never had a clean run. 1st run I hit the limiter in 3rd which may a/c for the 1/8 terminal. Something wrong with every run and ran out of time before I could get any more in. Definately room for improvement.....low 12s would be very nice.

Tyres were soft street tyres ssshhhh

Using std UK gearbox.

@ your timeslip

Whats an ideal 60ft time on 'street tyres'

I think that 1.6 is acheivable on formula R tyres, maybe less at elvington with just the right conditions

Drag strip startlines must be so sticky compared to hill climb starts.

To cut the 64 feet beam in less than 2 secs on a hill climb is masterful in a tin-top.
Best ever is a short wheelbase Audi Quattro, 700 bhp ATW and Avon hill climb slicks @
1.82 secs.(and the longest 1st gear on the planet)

There are new rules for hill climb cars in my class too. (hill climb is a speed event like Dragging)

Over 2000cc 6 point cage mandatory and a few other old rules enforced.
This has been very unpopular, and 2 drivers have walked away from the class rather than fit a cage.

Elvington is concrete withouth any grip compound at all, Santa pod is very slippery. Don't forget you are generally going up hill, have an extra 4 feet to go, and you're not using the force.

Besides, nobody said that drag racing was easy.

I casually raced in the early 70's (!) and drag racing is not easy.
The 64 feet marker in hill climbs gives a 1G accelleration if you do it in 2 seconds.
The start area is roughly flat and well layered with Avon's (and Kumho and Toyo's) best. Murder in the wet, great in the dry.
Best bit is you don't have to leave on the light. You can launch after the light in your own time, so there is no reaction time to worry about.

Silver wagon is quick!

Hillclimb start is:

Start your engines gentlemen, make your way by class/batch to the start area. Engine TMIC gets hot.
Eventually get to the line. TMIC now very hot
Marshals line you to the start beam.
Lights go green from red = hill is now yours, 5 seconds later..
Rev/blip/constant revs and into first
Dump the clutch and ****** 2nd hopefully after the 64 foot beam has been cut by the nose of the car.
Off into the sceenary and the black top if you are lucky. Finish about 60 seconds after.

Driver and TMIC now superheated!

The starts are now bugging me.
When the Sti was stock and on Toyo's I could pull 2.17's to 64 feet
Tuned and on toyos, about 2.1
Very tuned and on 1B semi slicks, and it's bloody 2.3!

Where am I going wrong?
I've tried violent starts (5K and dump the clutch) and whimpy starts (policeman/granny watching) and they all give 2.3/2.4

Help.
