Default Track day oil change?

When is it best to have an oil change for a track day?

1. Before
2. After
3. Before & after

Lets assume 3 is out of the question on the grounds of expense, unless you all say it is going to seriously damage my engine otherwise.

My last service was just over 1,000 miles ago.

I would say after was more important.

I would also be careful to follow the procedure and make sure your breather system is working properly.

I would also have careful monitoring of oil temp and pressure in place.

Ideally, I would go with both but that really is silly money.

I have defi gauges so monitoring is no problem, I thought that changing the oil after was more important also. Depends on the state of your oil before though I suppose.

Thanks for you opinion.

There are a few things to consider...your oil should be in good nic if only 1000 miles after oil change...but what oil is it?....For trac use you should have a fully synth oil of at least 10/50 rating imho, but 15/50 would be prefered especially if you are going to drive hard...I wouldn't go near a trac with a 5w 40 fitted for instance...even that soon after an oil change....An oil change after going on trac is essential imho...also have a good look at the condition of your brakes/tyres...and keep an eye on them ...you may want to take a spare set of pads along just in case...

I used to change the oil after every trackday, but i was doing a trackday every 3 weeks so was always on relatively fresh oil. I wouldnt go longer that 3K miles before wanting to change the oil before going on track.

Its actually an airfield day at North Weald so not quite so hard as a full-on track day for my poor car.

I am well aware of the effect on my tyres! frightening what a punishement they get really, especially the fronts.

To be honest I don't know what oil is in there, it is serviced by XTREME so I guess Knowlsey will be able to tell me.

Looking forward to it again though. It is so annoying that I can go out and set a lap time in MY car that I am familiar with and NO-ONE can drive faster than me, only for Andy to get it and immediately set a time 4 seconds faster

is that all.

Airfield days are just as hard on the car (if not more so) than a conventional race circuit IMHO.
