Default Overboost help

97 STI V3, on the motorway yesterday upto 3500rpm the car boosts fine then it hesitates for a second and is okay again at one point it felt like a fuel cut at 3500rpm. if you feed the boost in gradually the car is fine but if you put the pedal down the problem occurs. Any ideas?

Have you got a boost gauge? If so, what pressure are you reaching?

Should be the same as my sti 4.

1.4bar peak settling to 1.2bar.

Have you changed the oil recently? Over filling can clog up the boost actuator.
Easily solved by cleaning the actuator with brake cleaner.

the oil was changed recently but last night i noticed it only happens on a uphill. The car boosts fine up to 3500rpm and then the revs climb very quickly to 4000 like the clutch has been depressed then revs fall back to 3500 and the car is normal again. how do you clean the actuator?

What would you suggest searching for exactly?

My MY97 Sti v3 did exeacly this trick.
A boost controller fixed it for dead.

Get Andy to sort it with what you have coming.

If you search 'Fuel cut' 'overboost' you should get there, try Driveline first.

Mine did it very violently at exactly 4500, cold morning (not always) and when the car was under load, ie going up hill!

Nasty condidtion and ruins the fun of such a great car.

The car will be a magic one after Andy has 'done it'

Graham.
