Default ECU SWAP (UK into Jap spec)

Due to the fueling octane issues would it be worth me swapping the Jap ECU in my WRX with one from a similar age UK spec ECU? Is there any other advantage apart from the obvious?

My car is a Jap spec 1993 WRX. The donar car would be a 1994 UK spec turbo.

Cheers

I believe the majority of UK cars (non STI) run the TD04 turbo which is smaller than your TD05 unit so the UK ecu won't work properly.

Best thing to do if you don't want to go for an aftermarket ecu is to install the Z4 ecu from a later 95/96 WRX....this one runs a very similar map to the prodrive ecu and is apparently a very safe one to use on UK spec fuel.

Oh yeah, you will get tad more boost as well.

TD05 on UK 5 and 4door until 97 when TD04 fitted.
TD05 on WRX 4door until 97ish
TD04 on WRX 5door..

Assuming you have a 4door WRX and the ecu is from a UK car then the turbo's are the same.

Definately is.

I never knew much about detonation before I brought my Subaru...when I started coming on forums I realised the severity of this problem and installed a KL straight away. I think I would now install one in any performance car I run.
