Z4 ECU Questions?
Hi, I've just ordered a brand new Z4 ecu for my '93 wrx and were wondering what BHP and boost pressure will this ecu give me? (roughly)
The guy who I ordered it off reckoned it would give me 280BHP!!!
Also (on standard engine internals) what power can be acheived by chipping this ecu?
cheers guys!
Mark.

The Z4 ecu comes from 260PS (not bhp) models. As for what power you get depends on other modes you've made to the car. If you have full decat, filter etc then i would guess maybe about 250bhp or so (remember the 260PS is quoted power on jap fuel).
An off the shelf chip (ala scoobyecu etc) i would say could be good for anything from 270 to 290 depending on boost level etc. But a custom remap could give 350bhp, 400bhp..... depends on intercooler, injectors etc etc.

I have a 95 wrx with a Z4 ecu..pre Scoobyecu installation I had a full de-cat and STI panel filter and it was rolling roaded @ 254bhp if I can remember rightly. The boost is around 0.95 bar.
Once the ScoobyECU was in then I got 285bhp and 260 lbs ft This was on the 16.5 psi map (circa 1.15 bar)
Hope this helps.

Just to you let people know what I think of ATMSPORT!
Ordered ECU on thursday.................told it would be here for monday!
I phoned them wednesday..................."well it didn't get processed till yesterday, you'll have it in a couple of days"!
Told it would give my standard wrx 280BHP..................but as most of you guys know it's more like 250-260!
Told it would be brand new....................I don't think so!!!!
Told £150.............................invoice = £191.76 (invoice labelled as escort cossie ecu)
Charged £10+vat for postage........................cost them £1.50 (and a bit of gaffer tape)
Told it is a Z4..........................guess I'll never know!
YOU GUYS MAKE UP YOUR OWN MIND!
Mark.
ps they use this forum so maybe we'll have a response.

You do known that if you 'chip' the Z4 with a scoobyecu or similar you are defeating the object of buying the Z4. You may as well have chipped your current ecu as the chip holds all the engine maps etc, so a scoobyecu'd Z4 and a scoobyecu'd MY93 WRX ecu would have the same results.
Send the Z4 back and ask for a refund.

The target boost from a Z4 is 12.71psig and as already stated cars fitted as standard with this ecu nominally achieve around 260PS.
TBH if you are gonna 'chip' this ECU you would have been better off finding a Scoobyecu and fitting this to your original ECU and not bothering with the Z4 because when you cut J1 in the ECU the Map is 'read' from the added board/chip and not from the ECU itself
Cheers

Thanks for info guys!
My original ecu is knackered so I'm stuck with this one now!
Although a friend of mine has a '94 chipped ecu (which does go well on my car) and I might ask him to swap as he has the apexi boost/fuel controllers!
As his apexi gadgets have been setup on chipped ecu, would there be any difference for him with my standard Z4? do the apexi controllers bypass chip?
thanks again
Mark.

You will know its a Z4 because it will say Z4 in big letters on the front. I found this out after I bought a supposed Z4 which turned out not to be one.
Anyone want to buy a W6?!!!!
In fact you could send the Z4 back and buy my spare W6 (93/94 WRX 240ps) as its in fine working order, just tested yesterday!

I dont think the board can be identified on its own?
It would be real easy for someone to buy a genuine z4 and then swap the board for a 240ps one. Then hey presto they have a 240 ps ecu labled as a z4 which they can sell for 150 again. If that makes sense.
If somone knows a way of checking the board please tell me as im paranoid now!!! I got mine second hand!
