Talking Octane boost in a UK car MY00 running a 801 ecu. Any advantage/point

I used to think that the car ran smoother, was quicker etc. Then I decided that it was a load of bollox so convinced myself that I was looking after the engine as despite the car being mapped for 95 ron fuel, the higher the Ron, the more advanced the timing hence blah, blah, blah.

I haven't used any OB for about 5,000 miles now as the place i got it from has moved and it's a right pain to get there now.

I can't really say I am missing the OB though in performance terms.

With it being a UK car and running a 801 ECU wouldn't the ignition timing be able to advance so far anyway?

Bored

AFAIK the ignition timing will not just keep on advancing indefinately, as you add a higher and higher RON/MON fuel.

It will only have a map for 95 and another for 97/98? RON.

Ie, it's pointless adding OB to SUL fuel, when running the standard ecu!

Doesnt do the car any damage running OB and Optimax does it??

For instance, on a MY98 UK Turbo, Full De-Cat, Walboro, Panel Filter and BOV on a Standard ECU.

Cheers,
Grant

Ohhhhh risky question for the BBS mate

Prepare for both sides of the fence

I ran mine for what it's worth for probably 50,000miles, decat, vta, itg without and ADVERSE effects, I just wondered if i'd been doing my car any favours or had i just needlessly throwing £3 of OB into my tank every 200 miles
